“Let my prayer be set forth as incense before You, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.” Psalm 141:2
“Hey, God………..” That’s how my son starts his prayers – all of them. Whether we are praying over a meal, over a situation, or just praying as a family, that’s his line as he enters into the presence of God.
Recently I “corrected” him as we were praying over some serious situations. Apparently, I felt that serious prayer warranted a more formal salutation, and maybe even a more rigid and uncomfortable posture (as if God needs that in order to “hear” us clearer).
But as I was on my way home from work, my cell phone rang. “Hey, Mum!” said Rory. “What’s up, honey?” I asked. “Nothin’. I’m on my way home from school and just wanted to call you and say, Hey! Did you have a good day at work? I’ll see you at home, okay? Love you!”
I loved that call. It made me smile. He didn’t need anything. He just wanted to say, “Hey, Mum….” And it was then that I realized, Rory’s close relationship with God is evident in how he approaches Him. Now, that is pretty sweet………. I want that….
I’m thankful tonight for my 40-minute drives home from work, because the Lord speaks to me in my little Volkswagon. He tells and shows me things like, “Daughter – I hear your prayers no matter what your posture, and I love the casual “Hey, Dad…….” salutations from my daughter, as much as YOU do, from YOUR son!”
Goodnight, All! Hey, God…………….
