Without Excuse

by Rita Macdonald

Last night I woke up every time I turned my head.  It’s THAT time of year again when allergies cause me to have vertigo, and every toss and turn results in the beginnings of nausea until nothing but lying perfectly still makes it stop.  Then I doze off,  turn again, and then wake up nauseous, and repeat.  It was a long night.

Despite the annoying allergies, however, I am always grateful to welcome spring, even with its magnificent lightening and thunderstorms because eventually all of that rain brings about the burst of colorful spring blooms, and my neighborhood is especially gorgeous this time of year. Sadly though, some of the trees bloom for only about ten days – so vertigo or no vertigo, I had to pop some Benadryl and go for a stroll and enjoy the trees before they lose their spring beauty and their blooms fall to the ground in a blanket of color, only to be eaten by the lawn mowers next week.

Someone once told me purple and green do NOT go together.  But this week I bought a purple and green blouse to go with a green pair of slacks in my closet, and this morning I looked at them, laughed inside and thought, “Oh yes, green and purple most certainly DO go together!”  And then I went for a stroll to admire my trees.  Listen, apparently, the Lord thinks purple and green go together quite nicely too, or He would not have created and planted all of these beautiful trees on my street for me to enjoy!

And while I’m at it, He also made these gorgeous trees to be homes for birds who sing their teeny tiny little hearts out to me every single morning.

All this because in the middle of my Sunday afternoon ponderings and strolls, I’m making my way through the pages of Paul David Tripp’s, “Awe,” which I highly, highly recommend.

“For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”     Romans 1:20

What are you pondering this Sunday afternoon, and what colors has the Lord thrown together in YOUR neighborhood that leave YOU without excuse ??

Hello, I’m Rita.

Rita Louise MacDonald

I am a very imperfect follower of Jesus. Much of my journey in learning to follow Christ – as a single mother and now as an empty nester – has taken place at my kitchen table. I invite you to pull up a chair, enjoy the stories, maybe even collect a recipe or two!
