He Knows

by Rita Macdonald

Dear, dear cherished friend,

I wish you knew how many evenings I go to bed and think about you, wondering if you are okay.  You sound okay on the phone, and you almost convince me that you are, but are you?  Really?

Your laugh is so infectious.  And it’s always the last thing I hear before we hang up.  But I often wonder afterwards – are you really okay?

Those in between days, the “not-so-good” ones – you so often ask me the same question.  Why?  Why no justice?

I am so sorry.  Sorry for what you endured.  Sorry for what feels like lack of justice.

I have no answer.  I don’t know why things happened to you like they did.  I don’t know why there are so many women walking in the same pair of shoes you are walking in.  I know you feel as if you look like the bad guy, and your abuser looks like the saint.

But you know the Truth.  And God knows the Truth.  He does.  He really knows.

I also know that sometimes, you need help believing that.  So I’m praying that God will help us both with our unbelief when we need it most.  Because I know – He knows.

I also know that God is a God of justice.  And there will be justice – in His timing, and in His way.

Hold on.  He knows.

The system may have failed you.  Man may have failed you.  Friends may have failed you.  And there are days I know that you wonder if even God failed you.

He has not.  He knows.

His Promises ARE true, and I promise to continue reminding you of them from now until you truly believe them, and can repeat them back to me when I need my own reminding.  I believe that is why God dropped you right into my life – right when He did.  Perhaps to keep reminding you – He knows.

Yes, for such a time as this, dear friend.

“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”  Deuteronomy 31:8

And one last thing, dear friend.  Don’t you ever go to bed at night wondering if He knows.  He does.  And don’t ever doubt that wrong will me made right one day.  It will.  Waste no more time wondering.  Waste no more time grieving.  Waste no more time frustrated over what seems as if man gets away with.  What’s been done in the dark will all be exposed one day.  He promised.  He knows.  Don’t lose another night’s sleep over that one.  You can take God’s promises straight to the bank.

He knows.

“When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.”  Proverbs 21:15

Hello, I’m Rita.

Rita Louise MacDonald

I am a very imperfect follower of Jesus. Much of my journey in learning to follow Christ – as a single mother and now as an empty nester – has taken place at my kitchen table. I invite you to pull up a chair, enjoy the stories, maybe even collect a recipe or two!
