Talking With A Mouthful

by Rita Macdonald

Tonight I ate scrambled eggs, sausage, and cinnamon raisin toast for dinner.  And I know that my Mum taught me not to talk with a mouthful, but…

I did!  I talked with a mouthful!

Doesn’t everyone have that one friend who, there’s NO WAY possible to catch up on all that you have to catch up with, over just one dinner?   That’s my friend Robin.

I don’t see her frequently.  I sure wish I could, but we’re both in seasons of life that just don’t make that possible.  So we pick up easily right where we left off the last time, and tonight that’s just what we did!  And we always laugh about having so much to catch up on, that we just have to talk and eat at the same time, or we just might be there so long that we close the place!

But we actually ended up doing both!

Work, home, families, kids, parents, good books, friendships, politics, health…  We covered it all!

And we were so busy visiting and catching up, that we failed to notice we were the only ones left in the restaurant besides the cook and the waitress.

First, the “have we given you two the bill yet?” hint came.

Then the lights dimmed.

Then the lights in our section went out.

Then we realized how fast time flies when you’re enjoying a visit with a friend, with a mouthful of scrambled eggs and sausage!

WHAT a fabulous evening!   Some new nuggets of wisdom, some laughs, and a couple of good book recommendations!

And no, I don’t think that you should eat with a mouthful of food.  But I definitely recommend you have at least one friend with whom you have so much to catch up on, that you simply must!

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”  1 Corinthians 10:31

Hello, I’m Rita.

I am a very imperfect follower of Jesus. Much of my journey in learning to follow Christ – as a single mother and now as an empty nester – has taken place at my kitchen table. I invite you to pull up a chair, enjoy the stories, maybe even collect a recipe or two!
